Trigo Argentino

The 2020 growing season developed with rainfalls under average. Rains before planting were 40% below average, as well as in September, when wheat yield is determined.
Temperature is another important variable for wheat. Rains intensity varied a lot in short periods of time. Just as an example, two consecutive agrometeorological frosts hit in September, on the 21 and 22, and the 26 was the warmest day recorded in September from 1970 to 2020, with a maximum of 41°C. September 30 was the 2nd hottest day of the month ever, with 40.2°C.
Eighteen days registered temperatures above 30°C in August and September (Agronomist Gonzalo Scarpín, personal communication).
As a result, frost damaged wheat at or about heading; however, disease incidence and severity were low; yield dropped by 50% compared to historical data.
