SUBREGION II NORTH

BACKGROUND FOR THE CROP

The rain accumulated during 2010 was higher than that of the historical series until September and lower in October and November. These conditions allowed the crops at the first stages from emergency to tillering having proper useful water availability in the soil.

During winter, there were cold days with low temperatures but with no strong frosts, and the humid days predominated. In September, there were important rains that arrived at a proper time for the sowing, prior to flowering and in October, moderated rains continued at the time of grain filling.

The response of the wheat crops to the temperature begins from the germination up to the maturation of the crop. During the emergence period, an enlargement was observed up to ears of grain of approximately 25 days according to precocity and sowing group, as well as in the period prior to physiological maturity, which was between 7 and 10 days in average.

There were no late frosts and controls were done for leaf diseases, which appeared significantly due to the humidity of the environment. The genotype, the productive environment and the prevailing weather conditions determine the manifestations in the field of the leaf and ear diseases. The percentage of severity of the leaf diseases, measured at the stage of the unfolded flag leaf, was below an average of 10%, in this case, the disease with more incidence was the wheat leaf rust. Leaf rust was also observed, and in a minor degree the yellow spot.

In general, most of the surface was fumigated, and who did not fumigate had a decreased performance.
